The music is half the experience, and it’s the half most people plan least. Here are the 10 sets we’ve built from the most-requested “what do I play” questions — each one matched to the phase of the experience it’s for, from the build to the fade.
The build (0–60 min)
- The Slow Burn — ambient, no vocals, low volume. The build is subtle; the music should be too. Think Brian Eno, early Boards of Canada.
- The Golden Hour — warm, mid-tempo, the kind of thing that sounds better at 5pm than at any other hour. Norah Jones, early John Mayer, the mellow side of Phish.
The peak (60–180 min)
- The Social Set — the group occasion. Conversational, warm, the kind of music that makes everyone talk more. Early Bob Dylan, The Band, the live side of Phish.
- The Deep Dive — the solo or full-strength peak. No vocals or sparse vocals, long tracks, the kind of thing that makes the room feel bigger. Brian Eno, early Aphex Twin, the ambient side of Four Tet.
- The Festival Echo — the Rocket Pop flavor’s soundtrack. The live versions, the extended tracks, the set that sounds like the crowd is still there. The Phish and Grateful Dead live recordings are the default.
- The Dessert Set — the chocolate bar’s soundtrack. Slower, sweeter, the kind of thing that makes the longer chocolate curve feel intentional. Early Steely Dan, the soft side of Stevie Wonder.
The fade (180–300 min)
- The Come-Down — the fade is a sunset, not a switch, and the music should land the same way. Mellow, familiar, the songs you already know. The acoustic covers, the earlier cuts, the “already know this one” feeling.
- The Next Morning — the post-fade set. Bright, light, the kind of thing that makes the 10am feel like the best part of the day. The feel-good side of Fleetwood Mac, the early side of Tom Petty.
The rules
- Volume is a dial, not a decision. The build is low, the peak is whatever the room wants, the fade is lower. The set & setting ritual covers the full environment setup.
- The queue is planned, not improvised. The 3–5 hour window is not a time to be searching for songs. Build the 10 sets before the gummy, not during it. The FAQ has the safety section; the music is the other half.
- The driver’s playlist is separate. The person who didn’t dose picks the drive-home set, and it’s a bright one. The winter guide has the cold-weather version.
The full first-timer setup: the guide. The timing: the timeline. And the flavors that each set pairs with: the ranking.
